project statement, may 2024:
I want to illustrate the absurdity of society's obsession with the virtual world. With our social media marketing campaigns our streaming services and our digital thermometers. Our electric ovens and LCD car dashboards and taxi cab apps and facetime therapy and video doorbells. My project serves as a visual document of our screen-dominated reality, showing the intersection of reality re-presentation, digital technology's role in isolation and distraction, and the traces of humanity left within these industries and technologies we’ve put in control.
"Future Shocked" invites viewers to re-examine the profound implications of these things in our pockets, offering a fly-on-the-wall perspective on reality and the evolving relationship between humanity and technology. It's a visual metaphor for the landscape of today: one full of screens and digital escapism.
